Iwate/Akita Prefecture Tour – 110km/2,120m Climbing岩手・秋田県ツアー　-110km/2,120m登り

Last week, I visited the Iwate & Akita Prefectures to explore 2 key climbs, Kurikoma Pass (West) – 30.1km/3.6% and the spectacular Kawaragejigoku (21.2km/4.7%). I arrived early at Ichinoseki Station and headed west on Route 342 , my first stop – the Genbikei Gorge (picture 1) – a 2km long ravene on the Iwai River which has 100m cliffs in some locations. I then continued to Kurikoma Pass (East) which is a pleasant long climb (27.1km/3.4%) that passes through the wooded areas around the Mayu Camping ground (picture 2). The morning clouds were still around by the time I reached the summit (picture 3) which had several onsens and many visitors. I then explored the West side of the pass (picture 4) and the sun finally began coming out. I had not yet explored Akita Prefecture and looking out on the descent, it was unnerving to see such vast wilderness (picture 5) from the Mommoji Bridge. I descended to Nakamura Village and turned left on Route 51/Route 310 to begin the climb to Kawaragejigoku. I passed through Doroyuzawa – a very isolated (eerie?) onsen village (picture 6). After another km of steep gradients, I arrived at Kawaragejigoku (picture 7) – which was stunningly beautiful and had a very strong sulfur smell. I continued to the summit and then descended on Route 108, a busy commercial road (picture 8) to Yokobiki Station for the 4.5 hour trip back to Tokyo. I will post the details in the next posts.
先週、岩手県と秋田県を訪れ、栗駒峠（西）-30.1km / 3.6％と壮大な川原毛地獄（21.2km / 4.7％）の2つの主要な登りを探索しました。一関駅に早く着き、国道342号線を西に向かいました。最初のポイント厳美渓（写真1）は、磐井川の長さ2kmの渓谷で、たまに断崖が100mあります。その後、真湯キャンプ場周辺の森林地帯を抜ける、心地よい長い登り（27.1km / 3.4％）である栗駒峠（東）へと続きました（写真2）。栗駒峠に着く頃には、（サミットに温泉と来場者が多いです）（写真3）まだ朝の雲が残っていました。その後、峠の西側を探索し（写真4）、ようやく太陽が出始めました。まだ秋田県を探検していませんでしたが、実は紅葉橋からこんなに広大な荒野（写真5）を見るのは不安でした。中村村に下り、国道51号線/国道310号線を左折して、川原毛地獄への登りを開始。とても孤立した（不気味な？）、泥湯温泉村を通り抜けました（写真6）。さらに1kmの急な勾配を経て、川原毛地獄（写真7）に着きました。これは驚くほど美しく、硫黄の匂いが非常に強いものでした。サミットまで続いて、東京に戻る4.5時間の旅のために横堀駅への混雑した商業道路（写真8）である国道108号線を下りました。詳細は次の投稿で書きます。
