Commute and KOM

Was able to snag back this KOM yesterday. The two guys who knocked me off the KOM rode from Tokyo to Osaka (according to the Strava), 576km.. wtf!?
This Strava segment is pretty challenging, which is why I like it. It requires more than just speed, you need a bit of luck going across at least three or four intersections, two of which are almost always red.
So on the profile, it actually starts under an overpass, which has a traffic signal, so you need to have some decent speed when you come around the bend before you hit the light. Oh, and it’s already got a slight grade going up. The next kilometer and a half or so is just pedal hard without blowing up. There is one light that can screw it up. So if you hit that red light, then I just back off and chill out till I get home. lol
But, if you make it through this one, then the rest of the incline is just go hard. It also has a false summit, so you really just have to keep the pressure on till you get over the top.
Of course this Segment isn’t just a climb, the rest goes down and this is where the luck comes in.
The next couple of lights are usually green, but the big T-section light, really is a toss-up of what color it might be. So if you managed this green one, it could be a top ten. The last part just requires you to be full gas through the last kilometer of traffic, lights, and those possibly turning off to McD’s, Hama-Zushi, or some other eatery.
And then there is one last light that could really just f*ck it all up. Another T-section that is also kind of 50-50 on being green.
But after all that, it ends at 7-11.
So more than just a strong pair of legs, but a bit of luck too!
