These banana trees grow all over Okinawa but the fruit isn’t great to eat 🍌 In Ogimi village in northern Okinawa, banana trees are grown for the fibres extracted from their stems. The fibres are processed by hand, dyed and weaved into cloth all in a small workshop right next to where these trees grow. The cloth is called bashofu and is used to make kimono that are comfortable to wear in the hot Okinawan summers 🍌🍌🍌
