Since moving to Okinawa, I’ve discovered that Okinawans do not take sitting in the sun for granted. Especially on Miyakojima.
Do you suppose this is why Okinawans have such a long lifespan?
Life is different here.
People are a little friendlier.
Island time is in full swing.
Life in Okinawa is naturally more relaxed. This is a far cry from the city life I grew up in. Many times, I’ve had to sit in the sun and relax, telling myself it’s not such a big thing. Slow down and focus on the present rather than the future.

沖縄に引っ越してきてから、沖縄の人たちは太陽の下に座ることを当たり前だと思っていないことがわかりました。特に宮古島では。
だから沖縄の人は長寿なのでしょうか？
生活が違うんです。
人々は少し友好的である。
島時間全開。
沖縄の生活は、当然ながらゆったりしている。私が育った都会の生活とは大違いです。何度も、そんな大げさなことではないと自分に言い聞かせながら、日向ぼっこをしてリラックスすることがありました。ゆっくりして、未来よりも今に集中する。
