As a young child I didn’t really care if my parents were around I knew they were present and I was content with that.
In my adolescence, I was very conscious of my parents and made every effort to avoid them. As if my parents were some kind of virus, that if cought, everyone in the world would point and say, “Look at the lame kid with his parents.”
As an adult, I want to kick adolescent me and urge him to enjoy the time he has because once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.
When I took this photograph, I had no idea how subtly the various stages of a connection between a guardian and a child were reflected.

幼いころは、親がいても気にせず、いることが分かっていればそれで満足でした。
思春期になると、親を強く意識し、親を避けるように努力した。まるで親がウイルスのようで、捕まると世界中の人が「親と一緒にいるダサい子を見ろ」と指をさすような感じだった。
大人として、思春期の僕を蹴り飛ばして、今ある時間を楽しむように促したい。一度消えたら、永遠に消えるのだから。
この写真を撮ったとき、保護者と子供というつながりのさまざまな段階が、こんなにも微妙に反映されているとは思いもよらなかった。

大切な人に「こんにちは」と声をかける。
