アーティストの Li Yu-Chi は、写真を普段とっていますが今回の滞在は2種類の鳥の水彩ドローイングを毎日描いて収集していました。
琉球列島北部に生息するヤンバルクイナは、国際自然保護連合(IUCN)で絶滅危惧種に指定している希少な鳥である。日本の古文書では、カラスは桓武天皇による大和の国づくりに貢献したことから「建国の獣」とされている。
琉球民族と大和民族の象徴として、性質の違いを示唆し、沖縄と日本の関係のメタファーとして使用しています。

Island Birds-Li Yu-Chi

Okinawa Rail inhabits in the northern part of Ryukyu Main Island Yambalu, and is a rare bird species designated as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). In Japanese ancient books, crow is regarded as a “founding deity” for helping Emperor Jimmu to create the Yamato nation.
As a symbol of the Ryukyu people and the Yamato people, the difference in quantity as a metaphor for the relationship between Okinawa and Japan in modern times is therefore used.
