If you’ve ever visited a Japanese arcade, you’ve experienced sensory overload: brilliant colors, flashing lights, and infinite games calling from every corner. This shot nicely portrays the mood, with a lone female staring back at the commotion behind her. It’s both intimidating and thrilling. I took a friend here before COVID who was absolutely taken away at first. But as we played and won prizes, she gradually relaxed into the experience. That’s the allure of Japanese arcades: they’re noisy and packed, but the more people there are, the more exciting it gets.

日本のゲームセンターを訪れたことがある人なら、鮮やかな色彩、点滅する光、あらゆる場所から呼び出される無限のゲームなど、感覚的な過負荷を体験したことがあるはずです。この写真は、そのような雰囲気をうまく表現しており、一人の女性が背後の騒動を見つめ返している。威圧感とスリルがありますね。COVIDの前に友人を連れて来たのですが、最初は絶対に引き離されました。でも、遊んで景品をゲットしていくうちに、だんだんリラックスしてきたようです。日本のゲームセンターの魅力は、騒がしくて人が多いけれど、人が多ければ多いほど盛り上がるところです。
