Today is our first Okiversary!

One year ago we arrived on this little island, thrilled to be here and full of excitement. A year has gone by and it’s not a secret that out of all of our duty stations, Okinawa has been the hardest one for me to adapt. Between Covid restrictions, feeling really stuck at times, our families being unable to visit, friendships gone awry, and just general… whatever all this is *vaguely gestures at the world*, it has been a challenging year. A challenging year that has also brought so much joy, new opportunities for our family, new friends that are now close and dear to my heart and whom I am incredibly thankful for, and gratefulness, as always, for the chance of discovering new places. It took some time (way longer than in any other place we’ve lived), but we’re now finally feeling some sense of normalcy in this place that somehow, still feels brand new. Here’s to this last year that taught me so much, and to the two years we have left on island, I’m excited and looking forward to see what they have in store for us. ❤️
